2020 Celebration of Heroes

St. Michael’s Veterans Center named its 2020 recipients of the Celebration of Heroes Guardian Awards as part of its virtual event on Veterans Day.

The virtual event featured Jennifer Bertrand, a Kansas Citian and designer for Lifetime channels “Military Makeover” with host Montel Williams, as its host as well as video messages from Frank White, Sen. Pat Roberts, Rep. Emanuel Cleaver, Sen. Roy Blunt, and Rob Hughes.

The Guardian Awards honor community members, organizations and companies who are working to enhance the quality of life of veterans in our community. The 2020 award winners announced include:

    • 2020 Art Fillmore Veteran Guardian Award: Colonel Fred Reynolds
    • 2020 Individual Guardian Award: Dail Blake
    • 2020 Organization Guardian Award: Camp Valor Outdoors
    • 2020 Corporate Guardian Award: Netsmart

Thank you to our 2020 Celebration of Heroes emcee Jennifer Bertrand!

We’re pleased to announce Jennifer Bertrand from ‘Military Makeovers’ as a host for this year’s Celebration of Heroes.

Jennifer Bertrand is best known as the winner of HGTV’s ‘Design Star’ drawing over 5 million viewers to her no-nonsense, accessible approach to making positive and impactful design changes without breaking the bank.  And since winning has continued to share her passion for interiors through her design firm with projects collaborating with the Ronald McDonald House Charities working with the NFL, MLB, and MLS. On top of that she is designing homes both locally and even abroad in Costa Rica which is as fun as it sounds. Her brand adventures include serving on Monogram’s Design Council, hosting podcasts for the NKBA, hosting videos for Pella, Real Wood Floors and many others and she is now branching out to co-host a podcast with Laura Mueller called “Upside Down + Sidewaze” discussing real life design and the thoughtful moments that happen during the process. 
Bertrand currently is the designer on Lifetime channels “Military Makeover” with host Montel Williams and has appeared in countless media outlets such as USA Today, The New York Post, Rachel Ray Magazine, Life & Style Magazine, InStyle Magazine and is a frequent contributor to NBC. 
Praised as ‘engaging, expressive and funny’ by Hallmark, Jennifer currently travels the country as a national speaker for a variety of industry events and brands.  Jennifer currently resides in Weatherby Lake, Missouri with her husband Chris, their son Winston
and their adorable rescue dogs.
